How to Reach Gangtok

By Air

The nearest airport is Pakyong Airport (PYG) (around 30 km from Gangtok), but flights are limited.
A better option is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) in West Bengal (125 km from Gangtok).
From Bagdogra, you can hire a private taxi (₹3,000–₹4,500) or take a shared cab (₹500–₹700 per person) to Gangtok.

By Train

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), around 120 km from Gangtok.
From NJP, hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach Gangtok in 4–5 hours.

By Road

Gangtok is well-connected by road from Siliguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong.
The journey is scenic, passing through tea gardens, river valleys, and misty hills.

Anecdote: On my way to Gangtok, our driver stopped at a roadside tea stall near Teesta River. As we sipped hot Sikkimese butter tea, he pointed at the clouds covering the mountains and said, “These clouds are shy, but when they move, you will see the real magic of Sikkim.” True enough, a few minutes later, the clouds drifted away, revealing a stunning view of the Himalayan peaks!
